idX Launches Major Green Retailing Initiative

idX Corporation announced today that it has launched a major environmental initiative promoting sustainable retail environments. A key component of this initiative is the introduction of a significant national awards program recognizing outstanding new eco-friendly retail store interior products or design solutions. The idX Green Product Challenge will be open to all exhibitors at GlobalShop 2008, March 18-20. Products and design solutions entered in the competition will be on display at the idX Green Product Showcase at GlobalShop. The winning product will be selected by show attendees--retailers, consumer products companies and retail store design firms—through interactive voting kiosks at the show. The company submitting the winning product will be honored at the NASFM Retail Design Awards celebration on March 18 during GlobalShop. The award, valued at $10,000, will include advertising recognizing the winning company’s contribution to sustainable retail environments and a donation to the environmental group of the winner’s choice. “idX has begun taking significant steps to lessen our impact on the environment,” said idX CEO Terry Schultz. “But we understand there is a massive amount of progress that must be achieved very quickly, and the challenge is too big for one company to tackle alone. We chose to take a leadership role by committing significant resources to encourage other companies in our market to join the green movement.” Doug Hope, Group Vice President of Retail Design at Nielsen Business Media and GlobalShop Founder, said idX’s environmental leadership will provide companies of all sizes the opportunity to be in the spotlight. “By recognizing outstanding eco-friendly products, idX will bring the industry’s attention to the best solutions, many of which may be very new to the market,” he said. “At the same time, much-needed financial support will be provided to a worthy environmental cause.” The inclusion of the idX Green Product Award in the NASFM’s Retail Design Awards program is a welcome addition to the industry awards line-up, said NASFM Executive Director Klein Merriman. "NASFM's Retail Design Awards recognize the best in store design, store fixture design, and visual presentation,” he said. “We're pleased to also recognize the growth of the green movement in retail environments by including the idX-sponsored Green Product Award presentation as part of our Retail Design Awards celebration." idX’s decision to take a leadership role in the sustainable retail movement grew out of the company’s internal commitment to the environment. “This is not an initiative that is going to lose steam. This is not the hot topic of the month. This is a lifestyle change,” said Schultz. “We know there is much still to be done, but we’re committed as a company and as individuals to succeed—and to make a difference for generations to come.” Entries will be accepted in the idX Green Product Challenge beginning in mid-December at www.GlobalShop.org, and will be posted on the website prior to the show.

idX Opens New Seattle Facility

idX Corporation has opened a new Seattle facility, bringing the company’s total U.S. capacity to more than 1.5 million square feet. The new 300,000-square foot plant, located in River Front Industrial Park in the Seattle suburb of Puyallup, includes state-of-the-art manufacturing, distribution and offices. The division also increased the number of employees from 130 to close to 160, with plans to add another 20 employees during peak seasons. The new facility replaces five Seattle-area buildings totaling about 230,000 square feet. The largest of the former buildings, a 110,000-square foot facility, was located only eight blocks from idX Seattle’s new home. “For our staff, locating near the old facility was important to keep it convenient for their commute,” said Seattle General Manager Robert Cox, a 14-year idX veteran. “Growth has been phenomenal for idX Seattle,” Cox added. “This new facility allows us to work more efficiently and handle higher volume projects. The size of the building gives us the flexibility to build a full-scale prototype store within our facility so that our retail clients can ‘kick the tires’ on new concepts before rolling them out.”

idX Continues Global Expansion with Opening of idX London

ST. LOUIS, MO – idX Corporation has operated on a worldwide level for more than 20 years as a leading provider of store fixtures, logistics and project management for the retail, hospitality and financial markets. Now what began in 2005 as a strategic plan to provide a dedicated international presence to clients has led to the recent launch of idX London. “The retail industry is a global industry. With the opening of idX London we’re now positioned to help our clients expand into Europe and its emerging markets, such as Moscow, Budapest and Istanbul, as well as established markets in the UK France and Germany,” said Mark Pritchard, Executive Vice President of Strategic Business Development. Alister Comrie will lead the initiative as idX Director of Global Development, Europe. “It’s rare in the current business climate to find a retail fixture company growing at the phenomenal rate of idX,” said Comrie. “I look forward to carrying this success across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.” idX’s first global venture began 18 months ago with the opening of its Shanghai office. “Our global positioning enables idX to differentiate ourselves from the competition by having the capabilities across Asia and Europe to manufacture, assemble, distribute, install all through one point of contact.” Having operations around the globe also benefits American-based retailers turning to idX’s six North America branches when the company brings new products and services from international retail back home, such as the new ShopRobotic by idX® the company will introduce at GlobalShop in March. The self-service, automated store takes vending to the next level and was inspired by U.K. innovations.

idX To Debut ShopRobotic at GlobalShop Booth 4200

LAS VEGAS, NV—ShopRobotic by idX®, a totally customizable automated retail merchandise delivery system, will make its U.S. debut at GlobalShop March 7-9. ShopRobotic by idX® offers a superb solution for handling higher value, high-demand items that currently present difficult security challenges. Most retailers keep such items under lock and key, complicating the sales process for both the customer and the retailer. With ShopRobotic by idX®, merchandise is displayed securely in the glass-fronted kiosk and is dispensed when the customer inserts either cash or a credit card. Unit dimensions can be designed based on the retailer’s requirements--large to stand out in a free-standing, kiosk-type arrangement or smaller for store environments. It also can be designed in materials to match store décor, including wood, metal, veneer or laminate. Among the benefits retailers will realize with ShopRobotic by idX®: • Higher sales per square foot. Less floor space is needed to display and vend the product. • Lower personnel costs. Staff time is no longer needed to unlock or retrieve items from stock. • Greatly reduced shrinkage costs. The product isn’t delivered until the customer provides a credit card or cash. • Shorter lines at check-out. The transaction is completed at the unit. • Faster service. There’s no longer a need to retrieve the product from stock or unlock a cabinet or anti-theft device. • Improved product information delivery. An interactive touchscreen provides the consumer with in-depth information about the product. • Improved customer data mining. The retailer can download or upload information from or to any ShopRobotic by idX® kiosk anywhere in the world and react on a real-time basis. Potential uses for ShopRobotic by idX® are also many: • Drug or convenience stores, where higher cost items such as cameras or perfumes currently are locked up, discouraging the customer from purchasing. • Shopping malls, where a mall retailer can operate a strategically located kiosk that is open 24/7 and doesn’t require staffing. • Airports, in gate areas where retailers typically would not have a location. Products offered might include DVDs, cameras, books, prepaid cell phones or other traveler needs. • Hotels, which can realize a higher return from lobby shop sales without risking pilferage by stocking higher cost items like shavers, cellular phone cords, prepaid cell phones or iPods. • Computer or office supply stores, where products such as Ink cartridges create challenges due to their small size, high cost, and multiple styles. ShopRobotic by idX® is powered by Teknovation, a collaboration that combines superior technology and the best design solutions. Rather than the product being positioned several inches behind the glass front, with ShopRobotic by idX®, the product is right up against the glass. Picking is done from the back, allowing for a much larger pick area (up to 6 ft. by 8 ft.); the robotic arm uses a suction device that accommodates a wider variety of product shapes and sizes.
